Required Materials for Laurie Richards' Watercolor Workshop
SKETCHBOOK: Your latest watercolor sketchbook with a good number of your recently completed watercolor sketches in it. NOTE: A new sketchbook will be provided to you for use during the workshop, but please also bring your sketchbook
WATERCOLOR BRUSHES:
10 or 12 round (size varies by make) with good point; recommendations if you don't already own one:
Silver Black Velvet silk painting brush #12 round, short handled, squirrel and synthetic mix
Escoda #10 round Reserva (sable) or #10 round Versatil (synthetic), either travel brush or regular brush
Pentel Arts Brush Pen (optional and available on Amazon.com)
YOUR TRAVEL SKETCHING MATERIALS:
Palette and watercolor paint, pens, pencil, spray bottle, water container, paper towel, bag or backpack for carrying everything
We will not use watercolor pencils or crayons; if your watercolor paints are cheap student paints, this may be the time to upgrade to professional quality paint (ultimately cheaper since they are more heavily pigmented and you therefore use much less at a time to get good juicy color)
Folding stool or camping chair (light and easy to carry)
Sturdy walking shoes
Hat and water bottle
WHAT TO WEAR: Dress in layers; mornings are cool and crisp, but the days are mostly sunny and warm. Sundown brings back the cool, dry dessert air. LAYERS RULE! Have sandals available while working on lessons in the hotel, and sturdy walking shoes for sketching in the streets.
