Expressive Street Sketching Mexico City with Eleanor Doughty 6-Day, 5-Night Cultural Art-Making Experience Tuesday, August 15 - Sunday, August 20, 2023
Get ready for a dynamically creative street sketching workshop with illustrator/instructor extraordinaire Eleanor Doughty, a.k.a. @Herbcoil, taking place in the culturally rich streets of Mexico City in Spring, 2023. As we step into the dawn of a new era where in-person travel workshops have had to be reconsidered and reworked on every level, we're delighted to invite adventure-seeking illustrating artists to join Jedidiah Dore for a 6-day creative urban sketching workshop in the colorfully chaotic streets of Mexico City.
We'll be based in an iconic residential neighborhood where we can enjoy sketching in the streets and workshop lessons presented by Seattle based illustrator Eleanor, while safely enjoying a culturally rich experience in the Mexico's capital city, one of the most important political, cultural, educational and financial cities of the world.
Eleanor has teamed up with artist/instructor/workshop creator Meagan Burns, an American now living in Mexico City, who has built a solid hospitality network of local business partners who together help create a rich Mexico City experience by exploring the best areas to experience and make art in Mexico City.
Eleanor Doughty is the third illustrator/instructor in the "Illustrators in Mexico" workshop series, and here's more about this fantastic educational workshop:
In this dynamic Eleanor workshop, we'll be based in the Roma Norte colonia and we'll take time to explore this hip urban neighborhood, the Centro Historico and two of the city's fascinating top-notch museums. We'll start our day with drawing warmups and on-location continuous line practices before we set out to produce a sketchbook of the colorful scenes before us. We'll practice sketching architecture, people, parks, museums and tacos and also take time to sit on a park bench to bask in the magic that is Mexico City.

COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Although Mexico never officially closed their borders throughout the Covid pandemic, much of the country followed strict safety protocols even as vaccinations became available, and as Covid numbers have been in decline. Foreigners living in Mexico also were able to get vaccinated, although not as easily as in the United States nor Canada, but none the less the vaccination program throughout Mexico has been successfully employed as a Temporary Resident of Mexico. Currently mask mandates are in place, however this seems to be a fast-changing topic. The workshop is designed to be mostly outside and many of Mexico City's restaurants are now out in the streets, although much of life has always been lived in the streets in Mexico. Proof of vaccination is required to attend this workshop, as it is show of respect and regard for being a tourist in Mexico. If you have any further concerns about the Covid situation in Mexico, please feel free to reach out to me, but I have been living in Mexico City since 2021 and have found it somewhat easy to navigate an outdoor existence because so much happens outside. Personal responsibility is required, and I am here to help make this an enjoyable experience even in an uncertain world.
If Covid protocols are required by Mexican Government and/or City Officials, we will abide and you must agree to abide.
CDMX WEATHER
Dress in Layers! Mexico City enjoys almost year-round ideal weather, although it does have a pretty thick rainy season which begins around May. Your smartphone weather app may say rain for the day, but generally speaking the rains move in around 3pm and are done by 6pm, so most people know to do what they need to do by 3pm, and be tucked in by mid-afternoon so they can be out by dinnertime. Dressing in layers is your best bet, having some rain gear and a back-up pair of shoes in case we get caught in the rain.
