.Hello Adventure-Seeking Artists, I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer and that you're now hunkering down for a festive Fall and Dia de los Muertos. Although still quite warm here in San Miguel, there's something in the air that let's us know the seasons are changing; perhaps it's the roasting of the criollo corn on the street corners, or all the Mexican flags flapping in the wind in preparation for September 16th celebration; there's a definite *snap* in the air!
My thoughts are on the preparation for the upcoming "Sketching the Magic of Patzcuaro" workshop with Susan Dorf in October, and I'm very excited to welcome a number of you on this super-cool workshop. We need a total of 10 people in the workshop in order to set sail for Patzcuaro from San Miguel de Allende on the morning of October 12, 2016, so if you have anyone in mind who you think may enjoy the opportunity to begin travel sketching or add to their skillset, please feel free to share the workshop information:
If you live in San Miguel (or keep in mind for when you are visiting), there's an on-going sketch group that meets at a different location each week; it's a great way to practice your art, meet others who like to practice their art, and see San Miguel from a unique perspective. It's free to participate, but if we meet at a restaurant or café, always best to buy a little something, if possible. But more importantly, grab your sketchbook and join us!
(*note: this is an open group started by Susan Dorf's students and not affiliated with Art Leap; it just happens to be one of my favorite things )
I have discussed with a few of you about the possibility of heading to Mexico City over the Christmas season to sketch for a few days; it would not be a workshop, but a group of us going to sketch in the streets and other various locations. I am curious to know who would be interested, and if you had any other feedback. I am excited to sketch the world with my friends and fellow artists, and hope some of you will join me. I'm all ears, let me hear you!
I will be heading out to see the cows of Rancho Santo Niño this week and now that the rains have provided a steady supply of grass and water, I can now let the guys know I plan on inviting the Sketch Group out to draw the cows early some week-day morning. I'm thrilled to have you all meet the cows; most of you know how important they are to me and I can't wait to have you draw them. Stay tuned for more info!
We will be heading back to Guanajuato on January 26-29 for an "Urban Sketching Guanajuato with Susan Dorf" workshop, and we'll be staying with our friend Hugo Anaya at his charming and delightful Alma del Sol. I'm also in talks with Jessica Antonelli to do a workshop with her; if you've not yet met her, I invite you to check her effervescent teaching style, she's a lot of fun!
Art Leap Adventures has been created to support curious souls who are eager to learn new skills, travel new landscapes, taste local foods and are open to inspiration at every turn. We choose destinations known for their unique character and bustling art scene, hotel locations that are warmly decorated, comfortable but not extravagant, and filled with local charm. We take care to offer local foods and specialties, meticulously and carefully prepared for our small, intimate groups. We team up with wonderful art teachers who'll help you to see your travels in a new light, new colors or through a new skill. We take care of all the workshop details so you can focus on enhancing your craft -- and your senses.
