Join artist, instructor, and workshop organizer Meagan Burns on a memorable journey to sketch the historic highlights of Mexico City. Based in the charming Condesa neighborhood known for its leafy streets, thriving art scene, and outstanding eateries, our small group will explore the city’s diverse neighborhoods and sights, sketching and enjoying the fruits of this complex metropolis. Each morning begins with warm-up drawing exercises to prepare you to face the day, setting the tone for sketch-filled days and nights full of delicious tacos.
Our workshop includes four custom experiences that highlight the Mexico City Trilogy:
Create Your Own Colorful Sketchbook: On our first day, we'll make colorful sketchbooks that you'll use throughout the workshop. This personal, creative journal will become a unique souvenir of your time in Mexico City, filled with your sketches and memories from the week.
Explore Aztec Culture and the Ancient Ceremonial Pyramids: Guided by a local expert who specializes in the divine feminine in Mexico, we'll learn about the ancient pyramids and landmarks that reflect the city’s rich Aztec heritage.
Experience the Water Canals of Xochimilco and Lunch at an Organic Floating Farm: We'll travel the ancient canals of Xochimilco on a guided tour, where we’ll sketch and enjoy lunch at a sustainable floating farm.

Sketch Mexico City with Meagan Burns
This workshop, designed for all skill levels, and introduces continuous line drawing—a dynamic technique that brings fluid, expressive lines that capture the lively spirit of Mexico City. Guided by Meagan’s expertise, you'll build a personalized sketchbook that reflects your unique perspective, gaining confidence and creativity along the way.
This is a wonderful opportunity to experience one of the world’s most intriguing cities through your sketchbook. Meagan, who has lived in Mexico City for three years and has hosted workshops here since 2017, will lead you on this spectacular journey.
Each day begins with sketching exercises over breakfast, followed by explorations across the city: an architectural tour starting at Bellas Artes, a private boat journey through the ancient canals of Xochimilco with lunch at an organic floating farm, a visit to Diego Rivera’s museum with his personal collection of Mesoamerican artifacts, and an afternoon at the world-renowned Anthropology Museum. With every stop, you'll enjoy exceptional food, drink, and creative experiences.

Meagan Burns is an artist, instructor, and founder of Art Leap Adventures, a unique travel sketch workshop business that offers immersive art experiences in historical urban cities. Originally from Chicago, Meagan specializes in continuous line drawing, guiding participants to overcome their drawing fears and embrace a fluid, expressive style.
Through Art Leap Adventures, Meagan has organized workshops in dynamic destinations such as Mexico City, Oaxaca, San Miguel de Allende, San Francisco, and Paris, France, inviting artists of all levels to explore the world through their sketchbooks.
Meagan created the Continuous Line Drawing group in 2021, a thriving community designed to help artists build skill, strength, and confidence as visual storytellers. This group has connected artists from around the world, encouraging creativity and personal growth through continuous line drawing. Meagan is also one of the admins of the San Miguel de Allende Urban Sketcherschapter, where she has been contributing to the local and global sketching community since 2016.
With a diverse background in marketing, graphic design, and regenerative farming, Meagan brings a wide range of experiences to her teaching. Her workshops focus on loosening up, embracing imperfections, and finding joy in the creative process—principles that resonate with artists looking to capture the essence of place through continuous line sketching.

Mexico City (MEX) is a major hub, easily accessible from almost any corner of the world. Upon your arrival at MEX, you’ll find verified taxi stands where you can purchase a ride with an authorized taxi driver. Uber is also widely used and offers a safe, efficient way to travel within CDMX. Our hotel is less than 30 minutes from the airport, depending on traffic, and the taxi fare should be approximately $250 pesos, or about $13 USD. Note: Mexico City recently added a new airport (AIFA), but it’s located a considerable distance from the city center—about two hours away. When booking your travel, please ensure you choose the MEX AICM airport, not AIFA.

Covid Safety
This workshop is designed to be mostly outside and many of Mexico City's restaurants are now out in the streets, although generally speaking much of life has always been lived in the streets in Mexico. Personal responsibility is necessary but proof of vaccine is not required. Please travel with a health pack to include masks, pain relievers and travel insurance in the event of infection; let's do what we can to ensure the group has a safe and enjoyable workshop experience, as well as each individual person.
If Covid protocols are required by Mexican Government and/or City Officials, we will abide and you must agree to abide.

Mexico City Weather
Dress in Layers! Mexico City enjoys almost year-round ideal weather, although mornings and evening can be chilly. Layers are super important to stay comfortable. It gets hot in the afternoon and chilly at night, but overall it's quite pleasant and non-humid. Locals in CDMX dress relatively conservatively; avoid wearing tank tops, shorts or anything too revealing, or you’ll stand out. Dress in Layers!

Additional art supplies of your preference. It is not an option to attend this workshop without the sketching activities.
- Minor agenda changes may occur, but the substance of the tour will remain. - Please always be armed with your walking shoes, N95 masks, sun hat, sketch bag and sense of adventure, as occasionally unforeseen circumstances naturally occur in Mexico. We'll roll with the changes and ask for your patience if a change in the agenda is necessary. - Group is limited to 9 participants + Meagan; 5 participants are necessary for this experience. - During our group meals; we will have one bill per table - Food sensitivities can be accommodated with proper notification, but please know that corn is an extremely important ingredient in the food and culture in Mexico. Vegan and vegetarian options exists, with diligence, yet currently this Sketch Mexico City agenda includes meat, dairy and corn.
Physical ability to walk unassisted and stand for extended periods is absolutely necessary.

1) All individual cancellations must be made in writing and are effective upon receipt. There is no guarantee of a refund of money unless you as the participant can fill your space with a paying replacement.
2) If you have paid your deposit or trip fee and are unable to attend due to medical emergency, you will receive a 100% refund up until December 31, 2024.
3) If you need to cancel after December 31, 2024, please contact Meagan and we can discuss the options.
4) If a waiting list of interested participants has formed, we will put you in contact with the first person on the list with whom you can offer your class spot. If the person accepts and then pays the workshop fee in full, you will be reimbursed for your workshop fee. This is the only option to receive a refund.
5) Participant expenses incurred in preparation for the trip (e.g., non-refundable purchased airline tickets) are not the responsibility of Art Leap Adventures. It is required to obtain medical/trip cancellation insurance for this reason.
6) If an emergency occurs and you must make a change to your participation status, please contact Meagan to discuss. There is no monetary refund after December 31, 2024.
