7-Night On-Location Watercolor Workshop

Pack your most colorful watercolors this winter, and head south of the border to brilliantly colorful Guanajuato, one of Central Mexico's "Pueblo Magicos", where we'll paint and explore with the "White Rabbit", Anne-Laure Jacquart. We've created a safe and dynamic agenda that has us exploring and painting the vibrant city of Guanajuato, as well as a day trip to San Miguel de Allende. Guanajuato is a "Must-See" Mexican destination, and this is an opportunity to not only expand your watercolor horizons, but also to learn from visionary instructor Anne-Laure, as we immerse ourselves into the local art and architecture of this once thriving silver mining town, nestled in the sacred Los Pichacos mountains.
We'll spend seven nights in this enchanting Mexican city, and each morning we'll gather in the colorful rooftop dining room for a delicious breakfast, coffee and conversation with Anne-Laure and fellow participants, before beginning our workshop. Workshop lessons will be in our rooftop dining room, but then we'll head out to explore Guanajuato and catch its colors in our travel journals with our loose juicy washes. There'll be plenty of time for one-on-one interaction with Anne-Laure, as well as time spent reviewing sketchbook progress. Lunch will be on your own (there are several quick options for lunch in the immediate area). Afternoons will be spent practicing what you've learned and preparing for our Happy Hour Sketchbook Review, which takes place each evening on our rooftop terrace, complete with margaritas and light appetizers. Dinner will also be on your own, although you may or may not be hungry after our Sketchbook Review Happy Hour!

Meagan is also a volunteer writer for Urban Sketchers, and has been contributing monthly articles to the Drawing Attention newsletter. By doing so, Meagan has met and interviewed many featured Urban Sketchers' instructors and Chapter members, as well as in person at the USk Symposium.

Anne-Laure Jacquart « Following the White Rabbit » on YouTube, is a French travel journal artist, watercolor painter, urban sketcher, photographer and book author (when she's not singing, tap dancing, practicing origami or playing percussion!). She's a daydreamer who sees the world with a poet’s eye, and every mundane thing is an occasion to wonder. The mundane material to create from, especially through loose joyful watercolors and exciting travel journal pages! While celebrated for her compelling work in expressive photography - her books translated into a number of languages, one being an absolute best seller in French for 10 years - Anne-Laure likes to translate the world through visual arts using different techniques. Her true love « on paper », far from being refined framed pieces to display, is a combination of loose sketches created in a journal, in a travel journal style wether she’s abroad or at home. Fresh juicy splashy colorful watercolor works are her trademark and her unabashed manner to picture our worldly surroundings!
Anne-Laure is a dedicated teacher, and always eager to share her passion and to share her visual art skills not only through books, but also through YouTube videos, curated courses and on-location workshops (in India, France, Croatia and now, Guanajuato!). Guided by her belief that art can bring an amazing amount of joy and fulfillment, she never gets tired of expressing her creativity and encouraging people to do the same, thereby improving our world. |

Meagan Burns, originally from Chicago, first went to San Miguel de Allende in 2001 and has been based in Central Mexico on a full time basis since 2015. She has rallied the sketching community to become a Regional Chapter of Urban Sketchers in 2016, and is a current administrator of the group. She began to travel with her sketchbook, and upon her return home, friends would see her sketchbook and say, "I want to go with you!" Art Leap Adventures was born in 2017, and provides tour organization and management of travel and art workshops within the fascinating country of Mexico.

TRANSPORTATION
Guanajuato, Mexico (airport code BJX) is in the Central Mexican State of Guanajuato, about 4 hours north of Mexico City, and a 75-minute drive from San Miguel de Allende. Check with your preferred airline, but you may also want to explore flight options with Volaris Airlines, Interjet and AeroMexico. Upon your arrival at the BJX airport, you can contact our hotel host, who will arrange a taxi from the airport to our hotel, This is a very safe and economical way to travel to our hotel, and will cost approximately $500 pesos (about $25 USD each way) door-to-door to our hotel.

Please bring your walking shoes, sun hat, sketch bag and sense of adventure, as we will be painting outdoors and on location, and sometimes unforeseen circumstances may naturally occur. We'll roll with the changes and ask for your patience if a change in the agenda is necessary.
Group is limited to 10 participants (plus Anne-Laure + Meagan = 12)
During group meals in restaurants; we will have one bill per table and you must pay for what you consume plus at least an 15% to 20% tip. Please keep track of what you consume.
Physical ability to walk unassisted and stand for extended periods is absolutely necessary.
Food sensitivities can be accommodated with proper notification, but please know that corn is an extremely important ingredient in the food and culture in Guanajuato. Vegan and vegetarian options exists.
Deposit required to hold your space ($600 USD) upon registering.
Balance due, including all transaction fees, by Friday, December 13, 2019.
When paying via PayPal, a 3% USD fee will be added if you live in the USA, and a bit higher for other countries; please contact Meagan directly for specific information.

**Cancellation Policy:**
1) All individual cancellations must be made in writing and are effective upon receipt.
2) If you have paid your deposit or trip fee and are unable to attend, there will be no refund of either.
3) At this point, there are two options. If a waiting list of interested participants has formed, we will put you in contact with the first person on the list to whom you can offer your class spot. If the person accepts, then that person will need to pay you for your spot and once that transaction is complete and both parties are satisfied, we will transfer your spot to the other person. If there is no waiting list, you have a second option.
4) The second option is to transfer your fees to another ALA trip within 12 months minus a $100 administration fee.
5) If neither of these options are available to you, there will be no refund. There are no exceptions to this policy. Deposits and arrangements are made in advance of the trip.
6) Participant expenses incurred in preparation for the trip (e.g., non-refundable purchased airline tickets) are not the responsibility of ALA. It is strongly recommended that participants obtain medical/trip cancellation insurance.
