Continuous Line Urban Sketching OAXACA with Meagan Burns 6-Day, 5-Night Sketch Experience Tuesday, February 7 - Sunday, February 12, 2023
You're invited to join Artist/Instructor Meagan Burns and Art Leap Adventures on a grand opportunity to sketch the southern Mexican city of Oaxaca City, Oaxaca, renowned for its colorful architectural palette, ancestral cuisine, captivating art and diversity both in its natural and cultural resources. We'll spend most of our time in this mystical Mexican colonial city, as well as a two days of excursions: a countryside mercado for a truly colorful and delicious cultural adventure, and the archeological site Monte Albán. Meagan has taken great care and consideration in designing a fresh workshop agenda that offers opportunities in creating sketches of the architecture, people, mercados and parades of Oaxaca City, while learning how to efficiently capture these lively scenes of Oaxaca in one powerful line -- as well as eating amazing food all along the way!
In this dynamic workshop, we'll be based at a charming Centro Historico hotel and we'll start our day with drawing warmups before we set out to explore the city with one continuous line and a sense of adventure. We'll practice sketching the colorful scenes before us, as well as take time to sit in the main plaza to bask in the magic that is Oaxaca.
Continuous Line Urban Sketching is a tool to help you strengthen your drawing abilities and Oaxaca City is the perfect city to curate this method. At the end of this workshop, your sketchbook will be filled with the magic of this city as only you experienced it.

OAXACA WEATHER
Dress in Layers! Oaxaca enjoys almost year-round ideal weather, although it does have a pretty steady rain season which begins around June. Your smartphone weather app may say rain for the day, but generally speaking the rains move in around 4pm and are done by 6pm, so most people know to do what they need to do by 4pm, and be tucked in by mid-afternoon so they can be out by dinnertime. Dressing in layers is your best bet, having some rain gear and a back-up pair of shoes in case we get caught in the rain.
COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Although Mexico never officially closed their borders throughout the Covid pandemic, much of the country followed strict safety protocols even as vaccinations became available. Foreigners living in Mexico also were able to get vaccinated, although not as easily as in the United States nor Canada, but none the less the vaccination program throughout Mexico has been successfully employed. The mask mandate officially ended in Mexico in 2022 although you will see many locals who continue to wear masks. The workshop is designed to be mostly outside and many of Mexico City's restaurants are now out in the streets, although generally speaking much of life has always been lived in the streets in Mexico. Proof of vaccination is required to attend this workshop, as it is show of respect and regard for being a tourist in Mexico. If you have any further concerns about the Covid situation in Mexico, please feel free to reach out to me, but I have been living in Mexico City since 2021 and have found it somewhat easy to navigate an outdoor existence because so much happens outside. Personal responsibility is necessary and current boosters are requested; let's do what we can to ensure the group has a safe and enjoyable workshop experience.
If Covid protocols are required by Mexican Government and/or City Officials, we will abide and you must agree to abide.
